Life: the ‘reality vs. expectations’

5 September 2014

Since I was about 15 or 16 I have had expectations of how my life would pan out, at the time I called it my 10 year plan. I always thought I would have graduated university by now, in some kind of accounting job and living in London. In 5 years time (by the time I’m 26) I wanted to have a husband and my first child.

I know, it’s completely crazy. I do realise now that these expectations are far from my reality. For a start I’m still in uni and I know that I don’t want a job in accounting. Of course, I would love to live in central London but with the rent prices crazy high and way out of my budget, it’s a good job I’m happy in Kingston!

When it comes to a husband and children, I’ve previously said that this is something that I will let happen on it’s own. I can’t expect something so big to happen when I’m not sure what the future holds yet!

Something that I’m learning more and more everyday is that I cannot look far into the future and expect so much to happen. So I am seeing the reality of certain things, and I am living in the present and focusing on what is important right now.

Sure you may think this is ridiculous but for me it is right and the way that I manage to keep myself motivated and keep going. Don’t get me wrong I am planning lots of adventures over the next few months and I finally get to start my travelling adventure! I also get to cross quite a few things off of my bucket list.

For me, this is how I’ve decided to live my life for the meantime, I get to do things that I really want to do and I’ve planned a few more things that I want to do should I get back into university (that’s a whole other story). Now that I’ve really found my creative side I want to take full advantage of it and use it to its full potential! I mean why not? I’ve finally found something that I really enjoy that I can do everyday for fun!

My point is, that at 21 I have realised that my expectations do not always fit into reality, which is absolutely fine by me! Life wouldn’t be any fun if we knew how it was going to end, right?

What are your expectations of life?

Weekly Wishes #1

2 September 2014

This is something new that I would like to start doing. By setting myself little goals on a weekly basis I am more likely to make small progress in things in the short term and make a good amount of progress in the long term. That’s the plan anyway! I will normally post this on a Sunday or Monday, ready for the new week, but seeing as I came up with this on a Tuesday morning, I will post it today as a one off!

  1. Go to the gym 5 times this week. I’m now done with revision until I find out my results so I have a bit of time off (that I’m giving myself) to focus on my blog and getting back into a good gym routine.
  2. Sort out the ridiculous amount of clothes I don’t wear. I have clothes in bags that I’ve been meaning to sell on eBay but (as lazy as it sounds) eBay can be an awful lot of effort for not very much at all. So my plan is to take them all to the charity shop, my good deed for the week!
  3. Give my Filofax some love. I feel like I’ve neglected it a bit recently and there’s no doubt that there is a lot of notes that don’t need to be in there.
  4. Pack up the rest of my things for Uni. I always leave in a rush whenever I come back, so I’m going to make sure that I have everything I need this time, there’s nothing worse than forgetting something you really need.
  5. Organise my research. I have so many odd bits where I’ve written things down, but there’s no logic to it all, so I will sort out which bits I still need and throw out what I don’t.
  6. Clean my car inside and out. As with my Filofax I have neglected my car a little bit and I love that thing a lot, so it deserves some attention to be thoroughly cleaned!

Those are the main things I want to achieve this week, I have more on my to do list but you really don’t need my whole to do list, you’d end up getting a bit bored of it! I’ll check back in on Sunday and let you know how it has gone. Especially number 1 ;)

LOVE X

My Plans

21 August 2014

My past few blog posts have been pretty boring (in my opinion anyway) so I thought I would “spice” it up a bit instead of writing you essays all the time.

So by the end of the year there are some places I want to go or things to take part in. A miscellaneous list really…

1. Good food show. I’ve been twice with the school before but I always felt like I hadn’t done it properly. I had a look at who would be there this year and I saw that Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry would be there, so I’m keen to go see one of their shows of them baking!

2. Go somewhere on my own. Just for a few days to explore on my own. I made a list of roughly 20 places I want to go and visit but I think I’ll start with Europe first and start saving my money for the places a bit further away.

I thought I'd start with Paris!

3. Head to the food markets in London. There are a fair few that I’ve found which I want to look at and wander around. I live so close and I just don’t take advantage of it enough.

4. Visit more friends at their Unis. I mean I get to see my friends and I get to visit a new city. Sorry Georgia, this does mean I’m coming to Nottingham too.

5. Make more of an effort to read newspapers and magazines. I’ve already started doing this but who can resist a magazine when they have such good free gifts?!

And lastly,
6. Shed some more weight. I lost roughly 3 lbs in a week or so, so now I’m going to keep going so I can lose more!

The first picture was me on holiday and the second only a few days ago.

I figured, why should I wait till the new year to start, I should just start now!

What are your goals to accomplish by the end of the year?
